Solar Storms 2024

/

Welcome folks – we are in the midst of a once in a 20 plus year event with the Earth facing a G5 Multi Wave Solar Storm. It is a an exciting event leading to high to mid latitude auroras last night and potentially tonight as well

Luck has been a bit hit and miss for me – still havent managed to get my new camera as of yet (saving for it still!) but the weather here has been perfect for viewing such an interesting and beautiful space weather event here in Ireland, a place usually considerably south and out of reach of such displays

I have done the best with my iPhone 12 and a little cleanup and contrast enhancement in Luminar Neo to bring out the full camera exposure capture of the Aurora – beyond the naked eye

The little bit to know about mid latitude auroras, they are more detectable visually and intensity wise though a camera lens when compared to the naked eye so while I could see them with the naked eye which was incredible – I used a 10 second night time exposure on the iPhone to try really capture what was going on in our night sky

The beauty of energised nitrogen and oxygen molecules and seeing the light emitted when they release the energy to settle back from their excited date is immensely breath taking. I am an avid space lover myself and until now, I never had the chance to see the Aurora Borealis in real life until now…..

God – It was worth the wait!

So if you are one of the lucky ones in range to see – go out, enjoy and I hope you feel the same sense of wonder, curiosity and the scale of our scope of existence as a small part of an infinite asymmetric universe of beauty and power!
