Rome In a Day? No Way!

/

Welcome or welcome back! I hope you have enjoyed the content across my site. Today this blog entry shall be a simple one

Rome has always been a place in my heart and dreams that I wanted to see. The sense of history mixed with the roman mentality has always been a draw for me

Once the cradle of modern civilisation, now a historical and cultural capital – Rome is set in a place of beauty, near the ocean and with hilly setting with a great climate most of the year. The food and atmosphere is special, once you factor out the insane amount of tourists (including me)

Walking around – the city is relaxed with cafes bustling, people talking and chilling. The ambiance is calm, enjoyable and yet you cant yet be stunned at times looking up or around and seeing some of the most famous cultural and historical sites. A sure fire way for us tourists to chat to each other about as we have our morning coffee

The city is beautiful I must say – the colour of the buildings, the greenery and the architecture always promises and delivers a surprise with each corner turned. You do get the sense of being comfortable once you navigate away from the tourists or walk at quieter times

So let me share with you some photos that I took as I strolled around Rome along with some thoughts

Day 1

This photo was taken from one of the quieter balconies within the Vatican, overlooking Rome to the east. A real mix of styles, old cultural and modern – I wanted to capture it and thought best via black and white:

Taking a stroll through the classical halls of the Vatical Museum, my eyes were drawn to ornate art with religious tones on some of the ceilings – made me think about the insane amount of wealth gathered in this locale in the centuries that the Vatican was considered the centre of power and influence of the Catholic World, with the incredible list of artists that accomplished so much in this place:

Finally stepping outside, the sky was beginning to clear but with the shaded tones and lighting, I couldn’t resist taking a black and white panoramic of St Peter’s Square – the magnificence of the square in the light of the slowly clearing sky, really highlighted the character of this place:

I sat and waited a while, taking time to absorb everything around me, the atmosphere, this place and its history and with luck, the skies finally cleared so I could take a nice evening shot of St Peter’s Basilica:

From the square, I went nowhere and yet stumbled upon a lovely square with live music playing. Seeing the evening light reflect kindly off of the ground coupled with the perfect spontaneous girl with the red skirt and top – gave me the perfect sight to capture a moment

A moment showcasing the beauty of Rome, the soft lighting of a late spring evening on the whole locale, the small square bustling with the soft colours of the city and the vibrant colour of the people – living breathing moment captured:

Day 2

Weather be kind, I said to myself at the start of the second day. Unfortunately it was not.

Still I did manage to get interesting afternoon black and white / evening colour character shots of the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and the Colosseum. Trying to capture the sense of history and contrast between place and people – classical vs modern

Ever-changing and moving society flowing around Unchanged Imposing Monuments to History & Time:

With the day fast closing and my time coming to an end in Rome, I passed the Forum on the way back to the hotel and grabbed a panoramic shot of the once centre of life in Ancient Rome:

Finally: Spotted this real poser, no doubt loving the attention of the tourists or rather the food they contributed!

Thank you for taking the time to check out this blog post. Quite a different, more relaxed style of writing where I wanted the photo’s to tell their own story with only my words to compliment – I hope you liked it
